Forest Retreat & River Scenes
How I Photograph Weddings at Erin Estate
Deep woods and secluded streams give this venue a genuinely magical, fairytale atmosphere for wedding photography. As a Toronto-based wedding photographer, I use the dense forest canopy and wider focal lengths to create moody, romantic portraits with a cinematic sense of scale.
1. The Forest Cathedral – Capturing Low-Light Mood
The dense canopy means very low light, even at 2 PM. I drop my shutter speeds and use stabilized lenses to pull in the ambient woodland mood without sacrificing the crisp sharpness of the couple.
2. The Creek Bridge – High Contrast Exposures
There is a massive light difference between the dark creek and the bright sky. I expose specifically for the couple's faces, letting the surrounding forest fall naturally into rich, cinematic shadows.
3. The Manor House – Editorial Window Light
The indoor getting-ready spaces are cozy but tight. I turn off the overhead tungsten lights and strictly utilize the directional window light to create moody, high-fashion bridal portraits.
Best Wedding Photo Locations at Erin Estate

01
The Speed Riverbed & Wooden Bridge
The Forest Cathedral canopy acts as a natural light scrim. This ensures your ceremony photos have soft, even skin tones regardless of the sun's position.

02
The Forest Cathedral Ceremony
The wooden bridge over the Speed Riverbed is the spot for "God-rays." Timing this session correctly allows the sun to filter through the cedars for a literal fairytale aesthetic.

03
The Abbott’s Bridal Suite
The Abbott’s Chamber offers a 14th-century European aesthetic. With massive windows and historic textures, it serves as a high-end indoor studio if the weather turns.

04
The Cathedral of Trees
A 3-minute hop into the Village of Erin provides historic brick storefronts and old mill charm. It’s the perfect "lifestyle" contrast to the Estate’s deep, fairytale forest textures.

The Erin Estate Experience: From Our Couples
"Lucas shot both our engagement in Niagara on the Lake in the winter and our summer wedding at Erin Estates. Lucas was amazing and we love the photos from both. Lucas is a rare mix of a professional and an artist. He was genuinely excited, listened to all of our ideas and made the best recommendations. Could not recommend more highly.."

Photography Guide: Erin Estate Wedding FAQ
1. Can I book a photography permit for Erin Estate without a wedding?
Generally, no. Erin Estate is a private venue that prioritizes exclusivity for its booked couples. Unlike public parks, they do not offer hourly photography permits to the general public. To access the grounds for photography, you typically must book a Micro-Wedding package or a Private Event rental (starting at $900/hour with a 4-hour minimum).
2. What is the capacity of the Great Hall at Erin Estate?
The Great Hall, a timber-frame reception space, has a capacity of up to 160 guests for a seated dinner with a dance floor. It features 33-foot cathedral ceilings and large windows that overlook the surrounding tamarack forest, blending indoor luxury with outdoor views.
3. How much does a wedding at Erin Estate cost?
A full wedding at Erin Estate typically ranges from $35,000 to $50,000+ for 100 guests. This includes the Great Hall rental (~$11,000), Ceremony fee (~$3,800), Bridal Suite access (~$1,500), and catering costs (starting around $120/person). Prices vary based on the season and day of the week.
4. What happens if it rains during a forest ceremony at Erin Estate?
Erin Estate offers the Great Hall as a secure, climate-controlled indoor backup. Because the hall features rustic timber framing and forest views, it maintains the "woodland" aesthetic even if the ceremony must be moved indoors due to weather.
5. Is outside catering allowed at Erin Estate?
Yes, you can bring your own caterer, but there are fees involved. If you choose a caterer from their preferred vendor list, the Landmark Fee is $1,000. If you bring a completely external caterer not on their list, the fee is $2,000. Using their in-house catering waives this fee.
