Top Wedding Photography Opportunities at Aga Khan Museum

01
The Granite Reflection Pools Symmetry
The granite pools act as perfect mirrors. By shooting from a low perspective at the water’s edge, we double the architectural scale for a symmetrical, high-art masterpiece.

02
The Charbagh (The Formal Gardens)
The Mashrabiya geometric screens create intricate, lace-like shadows. We time your portraits to "play" with these patterns, adding a layer of sophisticated cultural texture to your gallery.

03
The Aga Khan Park (The Spiral Path)
The view toward the Ismaili Centre’s crystalline dome offers "infinite scale." We frame the couple between the two landmarks for a peaceful, grand urban narrative.

04
The Diwan (The Reception Room)
A 5-minute hop to Edwards Gardens provides soft, organic floral textures. It’s the ideal "botanical" contrast to the museum’s sharp, minimalist architectural lines and granite pools.

Aga Khan Museum Wedding FAQ
1. How much does a photography permit cost at the Aga Khan Museum?
For non-wedding clients, photography permits are required for the park and grounds. The fee is $325 on weekdays and $425 on weekends (HST exempt) for a 90-minute session. Note that indoor museum photography is generally restricted to couples who have booked their full wedding at the venue.
2. What is the capacity of the Aga Khan Museum for weddings?
The venue offers multiple spaces with varying capacities. The Atrium can host up to 400 guests for a cocktail reception. For seated dinners, the glass-enclosed Courtyard seats 225 guests, while the Diwan Restaurant seats roughly 85–120 guests. The outdoor Diwan Terrace can accommodate larger groups (up to 350) but requires a tent rental.
3. Who provides the catering at the Aga Khan Museum?
All catering is provided exclusively in-house by The McEwan Group (led by celebrity Chef Mark McEwan). They offer premium, customizable menus ranging from roughly $150 to $350 per person. Outside catering is generally not permitted unless you have specific religious dietary needs that their kitchen cannot accommodate.
4. What happens if it rains during a Diwan Terrace wedding?
If you book the outdoor Diwan Terrace, a professional tent is mandatory for larger events to ensure weather protection. The tenting package is a significant additional cost (often starting around $25,000 for draping, lighting, and setup). For smaller events, the indoor Atrium or Diwan Restaurant may serve as backups.
5. Is alcohol allowed at the Aga Khan Museum?
Yes. While it is a museum of Islamic art and culture, it is a fully licensed venue. The McEwan Group provides full bar services for weddings and corporate events. However, alcohol service must be managed by their staff in accordance with Ontario liquor laws.
