The Great Hall’s Chiaroscuro Light
The wood-paneled Great Hall is a masterpiece of dark academic mood. I use off-camera flash to pop the high ceiling textures while keeping the intimate chandelier glow.

The Quad’s Soft-Light Ceremony
The Hart House Quad acts as a 360-degree light reflector. When the sun dips below the roofline, the stone walls provide perfectly diffused light for soft, romantic ceremony close-ups.

03
Staircase Turret
The stone corridors and arched walkways are the ultimate Gothic rain plan. They provide a sheltered, natural frame for high-fashion portraits with a historic edge.

The South Staircase: Epic Gothic Light
detour to the nearby Knox College cloisters or University College adds grand scale to your gallery. This balances Hart House's intimate feel with the sweeping architectural vistas of the UofT campus.

The Hart House Experience: From Our Couples
"We recently had the pleasure of working with Lucas in early October to provide live streaming of our long-postponed wedding celebration. We reached out to him a few months ahead of our date and were impressed by both his photography and videography portfolio, and doubly happy that he could accommodate us for live streaming on our date. Lucas is very professional and was quick to respond to any questions we had. He sent us the video site link ahead of time allowing us to share with our guests who would be joining virtually, and when we ran into a minor issue with the venue's wifi during the day, he quickly remedied the issue and got all of our videos uploaded quickly the following morning. We greatly enjoyed working with Lucas and highly recommend him to others looking for photography, videography or live streaming services in the GTA. Thank you Lucas!."
As a wedding photographer at the University of Toronto venues, Hart House is a favorite—its Gothic Great Hall and stained glass windows create timeless, elegant imagery

Hart House Wedding FAQ
1. How much does a photography permit cost at Hart House?
For engagement or personal photography (without a wedding booking), permits are strictly regulated. Rates typically start at $65/hour for U of T alumni and $130/hour for non-alumni. However, bookings are only accepted 21–30 days in advance and are subject to availability due to student activities.
2. What is the capacity of the Great Hall at Hart House?
The Great Hall is a Gothic revival masterpiece suitable for large weddings. It can accommodate up to 280 guests for a seated dinner with a dance floor, or up to 400+ guests for a standing cocktail reception. Smaller rooms like the Gallery Grill (90 guests) are available for intimate events.
3. Is outside catering allowed at Hart House?
No. Hart House has a strict in-house catering policy. All food and beverage must be provided by their culinary team (led by Executive Chef Marco Tucci). They do not permit outside caterers or alcohol, but they can customize menus for dietary restrictions and cultural needs.
4. What is the rain backup plan for the Hart House Quadrangle?
If you book the outdoor Quadrangle (courtyard) for your ceremony or reception, the venue requires you to book a backup indoor room (typically the Great Hall or Music Room) to ensure a seamless transition in case of rain. Tents can also be rented for the Quadrangle for an additional fee.
5. Do U of T students or alumni get a wedding discount at Hart House?
Yes. Hart House offers reduced rental rates and special booking privileges for University of Toronto students, alumni, and staff. This often includes discounted room rental fees (sometimes up to 50% off the public rate) and priority booking windows.
