Gothic Architecture & Stone
Photographer's Guide to Knox College Chapel Weddings
The stunning stone cloisters and intricate gothic detailing make this one of the city's most breathtaking architectural gems. When couples hire me as their creative Toronto wedding photographer, I focus on composing striking, high-contrast silhouettes against the dramatic archways.
1. The Cloisters – Mastering Tricky Contrast
The repeating archways create an incredible framing device, but the contrast is severe. I expose perfectly for the bright courtyard, letting the interior stone fall into deep, rich shadows for a cinematic look.
2. The Grand Staircase – Sweeping Geometries
The landing spaces are beautiful but very tight. I shoot from the floor above with an ultra-wide lens to capture the sweeping geometry of the stairs and the full length of the bride's train.
3. The Chapel Interior – Balancing Warm Tones
The ambient light inside is a very warm, yellowish tungsten. I custom white-balance in-camera to ensure skin tones look natural and creamy while retaining the historical warmth of the stonework.
The Most Cinematic Spots I Shoot at Knox College Chapel

01
The Knox Chapel (The Sanctuary)
The historic cloisters offer a natural frame for high-fashion portraits. We use the rhythm of the arches to create depth and a dramatic, "dark academic" narrative.

02
The Knox Cloisters
To capture the true "Dark Academic" mood, we utilize the deep shadows of the stone corridors. This high-contrast lighting creates a dramatic, high-fashion narrative for your portraits.

03
The Rotunda & Balcony
The college library is a hidden gem for editorial mood. We utilize the dark wood and historic shelves to create sophisticated, intellectual portraits in the heart of UofT.

04
The Grand Staircase
The urban energy of St. George Street provides a modern city contrast to the quiet cloisters. We use the city streetcars and university architecture for a high-fashion, metropolitan wedding vibe.

The Knox College Experience: From Our Couples
"Lucas was absolutely incredible to work with! Lucas took both our engagement and wedding photos which turned out amazing! The reason we chose Lucas and Olivia was not only because of the great quality of their work, but also how comfortable we felt with them from our very first meeting. Your photographer and videographer are in close quarters with you the entire day of the wedding, so having a team who are professional, but are easy going and fun is essential. This is exactly how we felt with Lucas and his team. We were married in February, so it was quite chilly outside, but Lucas and his team were champs when it came to getting the perfect shots! They also made it easy to smile while not being able to feel your toes! Their dedication to capturing all the important parts of your big day, making you feel at ease during the entire process, their unbelievable quality of work and their quick turnaround time are what really set Lucas and his team apart. We have gotten so many compliments on our wedding photos and video! Choosing Lucas and his team was one of the best decisions we made and I can’t say enough good things about him. If you have a chance to work with him take it!."

3. Are flower petals or confetti allowed at Knox College?
No. To preserve the historic grounds and architecture, the use of confetti, rice, birdseed, real flower petals, or bubbles is strictly prohibited both inside the chapel and on the exterior grounds. Violating this rule may result in additional cleaning fines.

No. Knox College is closed on Sundays and Statutory Holidays. Weddings and photography permits are typically only issued for Fridays and Saturdays, provided they do not conflict with university exams or student activities.
5. Can I bring my own officiant to Knox College?
