The Pebbled Beach
The beach is the spot for soft, airy portraits. Wind off the lake and a thin haze over the water diffuse the light, so skin looks gentle and the horizon fades. The wind also moves veils and hair, so I keep this stop short and shoot while everything is cooperating. The pebbles are uneven under heels, so bring flats for this stop.
The Historic Mansion Suites
Getting ready here looks warm and vintage, but the antique sconces and the bright window light are different colors and can make skin look muddy. I switch off the room lamps and work by the window, so your skin stays natural.
The Glass Pavillion Reflections
The glass pavilion puts the lake behind you, but glass reflects and the sun streams through the panels. I light you from the side, not straight on, so there's no flash bounce on the glass and the lake view stays vivid.
The South Lawn & Lakefront Edge
The lawn is bright because the open water bounces sun back at you, which can blow out the sky or turn you into a silhouette. I plan lawn portraits for late afternoon and golden hour, when the light softens and the shoreline glows.
