The Cluny’s Photo Cheat Sheet:
4 Secrets for French Bistro Photography
Capturing a Cluny’s wedding requires an appreciation for Parisian style and the historic charm of the Distillery District. From the bright, white-tiled patisserie to the moody warmth of the main dining room, these four secrets show you how to utilize the restaurant’s intricate wood-work and urban textures for a sophisticated, high-end gallery.
Secret 01: The White Tiled Patisserie
Bright, Airy & Parisian Style
or a Cluny’s wedding, the bright, white-tiled patisserie area is a dream for "clean" portraits. The secret is the natural light reflecting off the tiles, which acts as a giant reflector. It provides soft, flattering light that is perfect for intimate "candid" shots of the couple sharing a moment.

Secret 02: The Intricate Wood Paneling
Warmth & Old-World Textures
The main dining room features stunning wood-work. The secret is to use the "rhythm" of the panels as a background. It adds a layer of sophisticated texture to your reception photos, making every candid shot feel like it was taken in a high-end French bistro.

Secret 03: The Distillery District Cobblestones
Urban Romance & Textural Depth
Cluny’s is in the heart of the Distillery. The secret is to step out onto the cobblestones just outside the entrance. The historic brick and stone provide a rustic, European feel that perfectly complements the restaurant’s French-inspired aesthetic.

Secret 04: The Bar Lighting
Moody Evening Glow & Celebration Energy
The bar area has an incredible warm glow in the evening. The secret for late-night photography is to use the ambient lights of the bar to create a "bokeh" effect (blurred light circles) in the background. It captures the sophisticated, celebratory energy of the night without losing the venue's intimate charm.

Cluny's Restaurant Wedding FAQ
1. Do I need a photography permit to take photos outside Cluny Bistro?
Yes. While photography inside the restaurant is included with your booking, the cobblestone streets and architecture outside belong to The Distillery District. A commercial photography permit is required for wedding/engagement shoots on the grounds, costing approximately $295 + HST for a 2-hour session.
2. What is the capacity of the Private Dining Room at Cluny Bistro?
The full Private Dining Room (PDR) can accommodate up to 64 guests for a seated dinner or 80 guests for a standing cocktail reception. For smaller events, the room can be divided into the "West Room" (40 seated) and "East Room" (24 seated) using a concealed retractable wall.
3. What is the cost of a wedding at Cluny Bistro?
Cluny typically operates on a minimum spend model rather than a high flat rental fee. For a private event, minimum spends range from $2,500 to $6,000+ depending on the day and season. A small "site fee" (approx. $1,500) may apply for peak dates to cover setup, linens, and staffing.
4. Is the patio at Cluny Bistro covered for rain?
Yes. Cluny features a stunning outdoor patio that is largely covered and can be enclosed/heated, making it a viable option for ceremonies or cocktails even in light rain or cooler weather. However, severe weather would require moving the event into the Private Dining Room.
5. Where do guests park for Cluny Bistro?
There is an underground parking garage located directly beneath the restaurant (access via 35 Tank House Lane/Cherry St). Alternatively, guests can use the large Green P surface lots surrounding the Distillery District. Note that parking is paid and can be expensive during weekends or the Christmas Market.
