A Photographer’s Timeline for Casa Loma

Casa Loma's scale creates a timeline problem most couples don't see coming: the Bridal Suite, Conservatory, terrace, and gardens are far enough apart that transitions quietly eat the day if nothing accounts for them. Bridal suite access doesn't open until 3PM at the earliest, which compresses the getting-ready window and makes the order of operations matter more than at most venues. A Toronto wedding photographer builds around this from the first planning call — the property also runs public tours until 5PM, so crowd management at the most iconic spots — the staircase, the fountain courtyard, the exterior — is a real scheduling variable, not an afterthought. The timeline below reflects all of that, with portrait blocks timed to the light each location actually needs rather than wherever the day happens to land.

12:00 PM – Getting Ready Off-Site (Park Hyatt or Four Seasons) 

Casa Loma typically only grants access to their bridal suite at 3:00 PM. With ceremonies usually starting at 4:00 PM, trying to squeeze hair, makeup, and your essential getting-ready portraits into that narrow one-hour window is a recipe for unnecessary stress. Because of this, I always strongly recommend getting ready off-site. The Park Hyatt or the Four Seasons in nearby Yorkville are absolutely perfect for this. They are just a short drive down the hill, and their luxurious suites offer the expansive windows and pristine, abundant natural light we need to start your visual story beautifully and without a rush.

3:00 PM – Arrival & The Bridal Suite 

When we arrive at Casa Loma and finally gain access to the on-site suite at 3:00 PM, we don't have to scramble. Because the heavy lifting of the morning prep is already done, we can use this elegant, historic room exactly as it should be used: for finishing touches, slipping on the dress, securing the veil, and capturing a few moody, sophisticated portraits in the dramatic castle lighting before you head down the aisle.

4:00 PM – The Ceremony (The Conservatory or The Terrace) 

Whether you are exchanging vows indoors under the stunning stained-glass dome and lush botanicals of the marble-floored Conservatory, or outside on the Terrace overlooking the sprawling Toronto skyline, the backdrop is simply unmatched for Toronto wedding photography. The sheer scale of the architecture does all the heavy lifting here, providing a naturally regal, monumental framing that requires very little extra decor to look incredible on camera.

5:00 PM – The Back Gardens & Castle Interiors

At exactly 5:00 PM, the castle officially closes its doors to tourists, making this the absolute best time to shoot your couple's session. Having exclusive, uninterrupted access to the manicured back gardens, fountains, and stone terraces without dodging the public allows us to capture truly epic, editorial portraits. We can also utilize the historic Library, the Great Hall, and the sweeping staircases with complete privacy.

6:30 PM – The Reception (The Library or The Glass Pavilion) 

As dinner begins, the atmosphere of the castle shifts dramatically. If you're dining in the traditional oak-paneled Library, the mood becomes incredibly warm, rich, and intimate under the glow of the chandeliers. If you're in the Glass Pavilion, the space transitions seamlessly from the twilight glow of the gardens to a modern, starlit conservatory.

8:00 PM – Golden Hour at the Front Facade 

Right around 8:00 PM, while your guests are settling into dinner or between courses, I always sneak my couples out to the front of the castle for just a few minutes. During the warmer months, this specific time is magic—the golden hour light hits the front facade directly, casting an incredible, warm pink glow across the historic stone. It provides a completely different, deeply romantic color palette compared to the afternoon portraits and always ends up producing some of the most iconic shots of the entire day.

10:00 PM – Night Portraits & Architectural Lighting 

Before the night wraps up, I like to pull you outside one last time when the sky is pitch black. Casa Loma features incredible architectural uplighting that illuminates the stone towers against the night sky. For these shots, I bring out an off-camera flash to beautifully light the two of you while perfectly balancing it with the dramatic, glowing ambient light of the castle behind you. It creates a striking, high-end editorial finish to your wedding gallery.
