The Glasshouse Flow: Mapping the Celebration

Madison Greenhouse's glass roof is both its defining feature and its primary timing variable. Midday sun through that canopy creates harsh overhead light that flattens skin tones and produces unflattering shadows—but that same space in the late afternoon becomes warm and radiant as the angle softens and the light diffuses through the foliage. Portrait sessions that don't account for that shift end up fighting the room rather than using it. The second consideration is location: sitting in Newmarket, outside the downtown core, means travel time from getting-ready locations needs to be deliberately built into the front of the day. The timeline below is sequenced around when the greenhouse light is actually at its best, which is exactly how our Toronto-based wedding photography studio approaches every Madison Greenhouse celebration.

11:00 AM – Getting Ready & Finishing Touches

The venue offers dedicated bridal rooms tucked near the Fig Room, allowing you to easily slip into your dress right on-site. While the rooms provide a highly convenient hub for your wedding party to store belongings, I always recommend stepping just outside the suite into the main greenhouse corridors for your actual getting-ready portraits. The natural light filtering through the transparent ceilings and the surrounding vibrant greenery provide a much softer, more organic backdrop for those quiet morning moments than a standard room can offer.

1:00 PM – The First Look (The Indoor Waterfall) 

Tucked away in the venue is a stunning indoor waterfall surrounded by tropical plants and blooming flowers. It provides a peaceful, almost secluded atmosphere that works beautifully for a First Look. The gentle sound of the water adds to the intimacy of the moment, while the thick canopy of indoor trees and vines creates a natural, lush framing that practically does the decorating for you.

2:00 PM – The Couple's Portraits (The Forest Edge or Fairy Lake Park)

Because the venue sits on four heavily treed acres, you can step right outside to the natural forest surrounding the property for classic, woodsy wedding party portraits. If you want a completely different backdrop to contrast the indoor jungle vibe, Fairy Lake Park is only a five-minute drive away in downtown Newmarket. It offers beautiful waterfront paths, open shade, and stone bridges that give your gallery a great variety of landscapes before guests begin to arrive.

3:30 PM – The Ceremony (The Ivy Chapel) 

With a completely transparent ceiling, the space acts like a massive softbox, pouring beautiful, even, natural light over the aisle and seating area.  Cascading ivy and fresh florals hang from above, creating an immersive garden feel without any of the outdoor weather risks. It is, without a doubt, one of the most uniquely photogenic and low-stress ceremony spaces in the area.

4:30 PM – The Cobblestone Paths & Golden Hour

 While your guests head to the Terrace for cocktail hour, we take a walk through the outdoor garden spaces. Even though the indoor greenhouse is the main draw, the exterior features a charming cobblestone path and a romantic gazebo surrounded by manicured grounds. When we catch the late afternoon light filtering through the surrounding forest canopy, it creates a gorgeous, glowing contrast to the vibrant tropical photos we took indoors earlier in the day.

6:00 PM – The Reception (The Fig Leaf Room) 

As dinner begins and the sun finally sets, the Fig Leaf Room completely transforms. This is when the thousands of fairy lights strung through the indoor trees take over, reflecting off the glass and giving the massive space a warm, enchanted-forest glow. With plenty of room for dancing, a canopy of foliage overhead, and the ambiance of the illuminated waterfall in the background, the reception space feels both incredibly expansive and effortlessly intimate.
