The Miller's Chapel
Miller's Chapel is an indoor ceremony with a stone hearth, chandeliers, and exposed timber. The tall arched windows put bright forest light behind you while the room itself is warm, so I expose for you at the front and let the window light glow behind you.
The Cascading Waterfall & Stream-Side Patio
The waterfall is the most popular backdrop, but the white foam is very bright while the ravine around it sits in cool shade. I place you away from the brightest foam and keep the water soft behind you. Mist rises near the falls, so I keep this stop quick. Ancaster Mill often hosts several weddings at once, so I plan your portrait timing so no other bridal party ends up in your background.
The Heritage Bridal Suite
The suite has low wood beams and small windows, so the corners stay dark. I do your getting-ready photos near the brightest window and shoot your dress and details there.
The Fallsview Room & Solarium
The Fallsview Room and Solarium have glass walls over the waterfall, so the outside is far brighter than the room. For portraits and dinner photos, I expose for you and let the waterfall view glow, so you're never a silhouette against the glass.

Ancaster Mill sits beside Spencer Creek in a restored 1850s stone mill, with the glass-walled Miller's Chapel, waterfalls, and wooded creekside grounds creating a very different setting through the seasons. Having photographed ceremonies and portraits here throughout the year, I know how quickly conditions can change around the water and shaded paths, particularly when mist rises near the falls.
I work closely with the venue coordinators to keep portraits moving naturally between the chapel, mill, and creekside grounds without taking the couple away from their guests for long. The entire setting is compact enough to build plenty of variety into the timeline while keeping the wedding day centered at the property.
